Columbia Shuswap Regional District no longer has active evacuation alerts or orders
KAMLOOPS — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) announced the rescinding of all its evacuation orders and alerts in the regional district area following the 2021 wildfire season.
The CSRD had seven different major fires – including the White Rock Lake, Crazy Creek Gorge, Two Mile and Hunakwa Lake wildfires – which required evacuation orders or alerts starting in early July until today (Sept. 8).
“While the Shuswap area did not see any structural losses due to the wildfires, our hearts go out to the residents of our neighbouring areas whose homes or buildings were destroyed or damaged,” the CSRD stated. “It has been a tough, anxiety-ridden time for many of our residents and we wish to thank everyone for their patience, kindness and understanding.”
Some of the notable evacuation alerts and orders impacted the District of Sicamous, the community of Seymour Arm and the communities of Swansea Point and Queest Village.
