A “near normal” school year?- Fingers crossed
KAMLOOPS — Thousands of students head back to classes in School District 73 this morning.
Full information is on the School District 73 website, but in a nutshell, all elementary and secondary classes will start at 10:30 AM this morning, with the exception of kindergarten students. Other exceptions- Westwold elementary new students can register this morning. Brock Middle School will start at 10:30 and dismiss at 3:00 PM. All elementary schools will dismiss at noon, in town secondary students will dismiss at 3:00 PM. Rural secondary schools will dismiss at 12:30 PM. Buses will pick up all students two hours later than normal and deliver elementary students home two hours earlier than normal, with secondary student pickup from the school at normal times following the 3:00 PM dismissal.
For all those kids heading back to school today, remember that in School District 73, all staff, visitors, and all grades 4-12 students are required to wear a mask in all indoor spaces and on buses. There are some exceptions that are noted on the District’s prevention plan on their website. There won’t be the grouping in cohorts as there was last year. Last year, there was extra staff in place to do additional cleaning. That will be downgraded this year. Best to check with your school’s principal for complete details.
Superintendent Rhonda Nixon posted on the District site last week that the hope is for a “near normal” return to school, but there will still be issues that will have to be dealt with as they crop up.
