Skaha Creek fire prompts evacuation alerts
PENTICTON — While good progress is being made on most wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre, the Skaha Creek fire above the City of Penticton is a concern this morning.
The fire, discovered Saturday (Aug. 28), ballooned to over 200 hectares yesterday (Aug. 30) and is out of control.
There are a couple of major subdivisions between the fire and the Penticton airport, and yesterday afternoon, the Penticton Indian Band issued an evacuation alert to more than 240 properties in the two subdivisions and a portion of the Indian Band.
Skimmers, helicopters and air tankers are supporting ground crews.
