KAMLOOPS — A gold medal, a Canadian record, a personal best, and a Paralympics record.

Kamloops’ Greg Stewart’s first throw in the men’s shot put F46, 16.75 metres, accomplished all of that as he finished first place in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on Tuesday (Aug. 31 Pacific Time).

Stewart’s throw was five centimetres short of the world record set by the United States’ Joshua Cinnamo in November 2019.

Finishing just below Stewart on the podium was Cinnamo, whose best throw was 15.90 metres was good enough to secure the bronze medal. Nikita Prokhorov from Russia won silver with a throw of 16.29 metres.
