TNRD lifts final evacuation orders near Tremont Creek, Sparks Lake fires

KAMLOOPS — The last evacuation orders related to the Tremont Creek and Sparks Lake wildfires west and north of Kamloops have been lifted.

In a news release issued Thursday morning (Aug. 26), the Thompson-Nicola Regional District says orders affecting 118 properties in the Greenstone Mountain area and another 19 properties in the Bonaparte Park area have been downgraded to alert status.

The change affects the following properties near Greenstone Mountain:

  • 4704 to 4792 Atwater Rd;
  • 9273 to 9437 Dominic Lake FSR;
  • 4445 Greenstone Rd;
  • 4700 to 4870 Mile High Lane;
  • 4812 to 4897 Paska Lake Rd;
  • 4730 to 4890 Pine Ridge Way;
  • 4830 to 4860 Saddle Cres; and
  • any other properties located within the area highlighted in the map below:

In addition, evacuations for the following properties have been downgraded:

  • 5160 and 5450 Bonaparte Lake;
  • 7888 and 8396 Clinton-Upper Loon Lake FSR;
  • 9221 and 9593 Clinton-Upper Loon Lake FSR;
  • 9425 Deadman-Vidette Rd;
  • 3050 to 5040 Eagan-Bonaparte Lake FSR;
  • 4010 and 4360 Jamieson-Spruce Grove FSR;
  • 5200 Secret Lake; and
  • any other properties identified on the map below:

Residents of these properties will still need to be ready to leave on very short notice.

The Tremont Creek fire was first discovered on July 12 just east of Ashcroft. It grew to 63,523 hectares before rain and cooler temperatures last week began to mute fire activity.

The Sparks Lake fire was first spotted on June 28 and grew to be the largest in the province at 89,626 hectares.
