WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) put two area restrictions orders in place for two wildfires impacting the Cariboo.

The first order impacts the northern portion of the Flat Lake wildfire. It applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below and outlines in the correlated map:

(BC Wildfire Service).

The Flat Lake wildfire is measured at over 74,000 hectares and is considered a fire of note.

The second order is for the vicinity of the Succour Lake wildfire north of Canim Lake. While the BCWS doesn’t consider it a fire of note anymore, it is measured at over 3,000 hectares.

The order is to address a public safety concern arising from hazardous danger trees throughout the area.

(BC Wildfire Service).

People must not remain in or enter a restricted area without prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person enters the area only while:

  • Supporting the government in the completion of wildfire suppression activities
  • Travelling to or from their principle residence, that is not under an evacuation order
  • Travelling to or from private or leased property for the purposes of accessing a secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order
  • Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act
  • Range development or range practices as define in the Forest and Range Practices Act.

The area restriction orders will remain in effect until noon on Sept. 30, or until rescinded.
