District of Logan Lake hopes residents can return home ‘within the next day or so’

KAMLOOPS — Logan Lake remains on evacuation order as of Wednesday (Aug. 18), although there could be some good news for residents soon.

The district’s latest update says its goal is to notify residents that they can return home under an evacuation alert “within the next day or so.” The district says it is still mopping up and securing the community so residents can return home safely.

Elsewhere, the Emergency Operation Centre for Logan Lake has determined in consultation with B.C. Wildfire Service that the evacuation order for the Highland Valley Mine site can be rescinded and downgraded to an alert. This will allow workers to return to regular schedules and operations as determined by mine management.

The district says the preferred route for access will continue to be through Ashcroft. Mine personnel should check with management for clarification on this matter and to ensure that changing road closures will not affect any routes into the mine.
