Downtown Kamloops homes in the path of City Gardens development offered for sale and relocation

Aug 17, 2021 | 9:26 AM

KAMLOOPS — There are 12 homes located in downtown Kamloops for sale, with some starting as low as $75,000.

However, there may be a few extra costly logistics afterward.

The Kelson Group purchased three acres of land in the 400-block of Nicola Street and the 500-block of Battle Street as part of its City Gardens development. In total, 20 houses on those streets will be removed, but 12 were identified as ones that could potentially be moved to other locations.

Houses available to be purchased and relocated are:

  • 520 Fifth Ave.
  • 530 Fifth Ave.
  • 576 Fifth Ave.
  • 420 Nicola St.
  • 430 Nicola St.
  • 435 Nicola St.
  • 443 Nicola St.
  • 461 Nicola St.
  • 469 Nicola St.
  • 435 Battle St.
  • 451 Battle St.
  • 461 Battle St.

Kelson Group says it’s working with Nickel Bros House Moving, a company that provides house moving services, to minimize the costs of saving each house for those who are interested in purchasing.

“These are used homes and will require work, but even before those considerations, there are many requirements that come into play such as the proximity, location and the route to get to the house’s new destination,” Nickel Bros House Moving Partner Jeremy Nickel says. “Once we have those details ironed out and the deal is done, saving a house from demolition is exciting, and our hard-working team gets to work.”

Kelson Group says the remaining eight that cannot be moved will have as much salvageable materials removed and re-purposed, as well as documented with guidance from the Kamloops Museum and Archives and members of the Kamloops Heritage Commission.

The deadline to finalize a sale for the soon-to-be relocated homes is Nov. 30, 2021. Interested buyers can learn more online.

Kelson Group President Jason Fawcett says the goal is to break ground for City Gardens in early 2022.
