KAMLOOPS — A fifth candidate has been confirmed for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo ahead of the September 20th federal election.

Iain Currie, who first ran for the Green Party in the 2019 election, says he will carry the party’s banner again in 2021.

Currie is a lawyer and former high-profile Crown prosecutor in Kamloops. He finished fourth in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo race in 2019, behind Conservative Cathy McLeod, Liberal Terry Lake and Cynthia Egli of the NDP.

In a news release, Currie says he is disappointed to be running again so soon after the last election.

“That this is seen as a time not for cooperation, reflection or analysis but for partisan political opportunity should tell you a lot about our broken system, and about why, this time, you should vote against cynicism, partisanship and business as usual and vote for something better,” he said.

McLeod decided against running for a fifth term representing the riding for the Conservative Party of Canada. Party members nominated prosecutor Frank Caputo in her place.

Also confirmed as candidates are lawyer and former judge Bill Sundhu for the NDP, lawyer Jesse McCormick for the Liberals and community organizer Corally Delwo of the People’s Party of Canada.
