Cherry Creek put on evacuation order by TNRD

UPDATE (6:50 p.m.): The TNRD officially issued an evacuation order for 166 properties within the vicinity of Cherry Creek due to the Tremont Creek wildfire.

The properties affected include:

  • 5160 to 6349 Beaton Rd.
  • 5747 to 6452 Buckhorn Rd.
  • 5840 to 5884 Cherry Rd.
  • 728 and 733 Duffy Rd.
  • 4715 to 4805 Foley Rd.
  • 5844 to 6177 Gardi Rd.
  • 1472 to 1905 Greenstone Rd.
  • 5080 and 5096 Lazy Acres Rd.
  • 5368 to 5960 Rodeo Dr.
  • 8660 and 9900 Six Mile Hill Rd.
  • 4420 Sugarloaf Rd.
  • 4697 to 6628 Trans-Canada Hwy.
  • any other properties located within the area noted on the attached map.

Anyone in the described area must leave immediately. Emergency Support Services will only be provided if your primary residence is one of the properties under evacuation order.

The TNRD recommends evacuees to make arrangements to stay with family or friends as there is a critical shortage of commercial accommodations in Kamloops, and throughout the region.

Anyone who cannot stay with friends or family is asked to report to the Annex Building, 3120 Creekside Way, in Sun Peaks.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has officially put the community of Cherry Creek, kilometres west of Kamloops, on evacuation order.

The order is for all areas of Cherry Creek south of the TransCanada Highway, as well as properties on the south side of Highway One in the Tobiano area.

The TNRD says the B.C. Wildfire Service has recommended that all residents be out of the area immediately .

The community had been on alert since Thursday and has been slowly moving livestock out of the area in case of an order.

The TNRD and B.C. Wildfire Service met with Cherry Creek residents on Friday to provide an update on the Tremont Creek fire and also encourage them to be prepared.

As of Friday, the wildfire service said the Tremont Creek fire was about 10 kilometres from Cherry Creek, but has moved closer. The fire, which is threatening Logan Lake, has now burned 62,594 hectares and is classified as out of control.
