Weekend for Kamloops RCMP includes consensual fight gone off the rails, drug seizure, and bear spray attack

Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 399 calls for service from midnight Friday (Aug. 6), to 9 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 9). Below are some highlights from those calls.

Man arrested after fight lands two people in the hospital

RCMP responded to a hotel on the 1800-block of Rogers Way for what reportedly began as a consensual fight between two people but escalated to a reported assault involving a blunt weapon Friday morning.

Both the man accused of assault and the victim were sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man accused was released with conditions and a court date, pending the investigation’s completion.

Woman arrested, drugs seized during traffic stop

An officer was reportedly making patrol early Saturday morning when he observed a driving violation at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Lorne Street.

After a traffic stop, police checks revealed the driver to be prohibited, resulting in her arrest and a seven-day vehicle impound.

A search led to the discovery and seizure of suspected illegal drugs, packaging, and paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing.

Bear spray attack at Peterson Creek Bridge

A woman stated she had been “bear maced” at Peterson Creek Bridge by a Caucasian woman in her 30s who’s 5-10 with short, dark, curly hair.

RCMP received a call Monday at around 2:30 a.m. from a store on Seymour Street. They patrolled the area but did not locate a suspect.

The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Man arrested after reportedly stealing bike and threatening with a weapon

Saturday afternoon, RCMP arrested a man at the alleyway near Seventh Avenue and Victoria Street after another man was allegedly threatened with a knife while trying to get his stolen bike back

The bike’s rightful owner was contacted and got it back, but police said he was not interested in pursuing charges.

The man was released with a court date, pending the conclusion of the breach investigation.

Attempted robbery near downtown hotel

A man allegedly attempted to break into a vehicle near a hotel on the 600-block of Victoria Street early Monday morning.

When confronted, RCMP said he entered the hotel, stole a portable debit machine, and tried to take an employee’s phone.

Officers responded and a suspect was arrested nearby. He was later released with a court date, pending the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge recommendations.
