Wildfire-related travel advisory issued for Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt

MERRITT — As a result of the nearby July Mountain wildfire, Drive BC says a travel advisory is now in effect for the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt.

The advisory is in effect between Exit 228: Coquihalla Lakes Road, and Exit 250: Larson Hill, for a 21.6 km stretch. The road remains open to traffic as of 9:30 a.m Friday (Aug. 6), and drivers can expect low visibility due to wildfire smoke.

Motorists are also being told to avoid stopping on the highway. The latest update on the BC Wildfire Service information page from Thursday (Aug. 5) says the July Mountain wildfire is still classified as out of control.

The next update from Drive BC is estimated by noon today.
