No appointment necessary ‘Walk-in Wednesday’ debuts province-wide

NANAIMO — All mass vaccination clinics in B.C. are open to eligible recipients on Wednesday Aug. 4 to get immunized against COVID-19.

Walk-in Wednesday enables everybody 12-years-old and up to receive their first dose, or those vaccinated before June 16 to receive their second shot.

Moderna or Pfizer vaccines will be administered at the clinics, established as alternatives to scheduled appointments for vaccinations, particularly for younger populations.

Recipients are asked to bring photo ID to any public vaccination clinic, while those receiving a second dose are encouraged to bring their immunization record card.

A statement from Island Health said this is the only Walk-in clinic of this type scheduled at this time.

Other efforts have been made in the Nanaimo area to reach out to people who hadn’t previously received a COVID shot, including a mobile clinic previously established at Woodgrove Centre.

According to Island Health, more than 125 first doses were issued at mobile Vax Van clinics set up on July 25, 26 and 27 at Maffeo Sutton Park, the Chase River Country Grocer parking lot and Westwood Lake.

According to BC Centre for Disease Control data 80 per cent of those eligible in the greater Nanaimo area received at least one COVID-19 vaccination as of late July, aligning with the provincial average.
