B.C. reports 342 new COVID-19 cases province-wide, including 171 in Interior Health

VICTORIA – Exactly half of the cases in the B.C. government’s latest COVID-19 update are in Interior Health.

Between August 3 and 4, the province is reporting 342 new cases of COVID-19, with 171 of them in Interior Health.

Provincially, there are 1,764 active cases in B.C., an increase of 220. Within Interior Health, there are 945 active cases, an increase of 98. Interior Health has approximately 54 per cent of B.C.’s active cases.

Of the active cases provincially, 55 individuals are in hospital and 23 are in intensive care, an increase of two and four respectively. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There were no new deaths related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, leaving the provincial total at 1,772.

Elsewhere, there were 66 new cases in Fraser Health (388 active), 57 in Vancouver Coastal Health (258 active), 32 in Island Health (109), and 13 in Northern Health (52).

There are three new active COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities in Interior Health: Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook, Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna, and Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna. Nelson Jubilee Manor (Interior Health) and Holyrood Manor (Fraser Health) also have active COVID-19 outbreaks.

As of August 4, 81.5 per cent (3,777,588) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, a 0.1 per cent increase. Meanwhile, 67.9 per cent (3,146,669) have received their second, a 0.6 per cent increase.
