Scam fundraiser for Trozzo Creek firefighters pops up online

CASTLEGAR — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is warning the public about scam fundraisers that have popped up online for the firefighters battling the Trozzo Creek fire.

The online scams claim to be raising money for masks and other personal protective equipment for wildfire fighters.

“Please be wary of these requests as they are unsolicited by the BC Wildfire Service and there is no need for additional supplies,” said the BCWS in a post to Facebook on Tuesday afternoon.

It noted that the Wildfire Service appreciates the support but actually cannot accept donations of any kind, adding that anyone interested in supporting firefighters can do so by posting supportive social media comments or signage at home.
