Person drowns at White Lake north of Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM — RCMP say one person tragically drowned at White Lake near Salmon Arm on Wednesday (July 28).

Salmon Arm RCMP’s underwater recovery team recovered the body the following day on July 29.

S/Sgt. Scott West said the group of individuals at the lake were not described as strong swimmers.

“If you aren’t a strong swimmer, please avail yourselves of some kind of official personal flotation device before going out in any waters,” West said. “With our waters in the Okanagan, Shuswap, and Kamloops area, the drop offs can be quite deep, steep, and unexpected for somebody who’s uninitiated in the local waterways. Be very careful and don’t try to get past where you can touch and are comfortable swimming.”
