MovieMart purchased by Kamloops Film Society, with plans to continue video rentals
KAMLOOPS — With new ownership, and a new location, it won’t exactly be business as usual for MovieMart, but the city’s only video rental store will be sticking around.
In a release today (Aug. 3), the Kamloops Film Society says it has purchased MovieMart from original owner/Kamloops city councillor Denis Walsh. Starting this fall, the Society plans to continue running rentals out of the Paramount Theatre.
According to the release, Walsh started MovieMart in 1982 and he believes it is the longest running video store in the world.
“I am extremely happy that the Kamloops Film Society has purchased this awesome selection of movies.” states Walsh in the release, “Over the past four decades MovieMart has been collecting this very extensive and eclectic selection of movies. It is wonderful the KFS will be keeping this unique diverse video library intact, allowing Kamloops movie fans the opportunity to still have access to these fine films.”
