Kamloops “cousins” sign with new teams as UFA’s

KAMLOOPS —- Two Kamloops athletes who share a common bond, other than both being from the same city, signed with new teams as unrestricted free agents on the weekend.

Riley Nash is going to the NHL Winnipeg Jets on a one year deal, while Kelly Olynyk has signed for three years with the NBA Detroit Pistons.

Nash and Olynyk share a distant relationship, although not by blood.

Olynyk’s father’s brother is married to Nash’s mother’s sister — got that?

Nash and Olynyk also both played in Boston in the 2016-17 season — Nash with the NHL Bruins and Olynyk with the NBA Celtics.
