B.C. reported 742 new COVID-19 cases over four days, more than half are in Interior Health

VICTORIA – Once again, Interior Health accounted for more than half of cases in the B.C. government’s latest COVID-19 update.

Between July 30 and Aug. 3, the province is reporting 742 new cases of COVID-19 over a four-day period, with 395 of them (53 per cent) in Interior Health.

Provincially, there are 1,544 active cases in B.C., with 847 of them in Interior Health. Of the active cases, 53 individuals are in hospital and 19 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There was one new death in Vancouver Coastal Health over the four-day stretch. Provincially, 1,772 people have died due to COVID-19.

Elsewhere, there were 165 new cases in Fraser Health (348 active), 115 in Vancouver Coastal Health (212 active), 42 in Island Health (85), and 24 in Northern Health (43).

The daily breakdown is as follows:

  • July 30 to 31: 160 new cases
  • July 31 to Aug. 1: 196 new cases
  • Aug. 1 to 2: 185 new cases
  • Aug. 2 to 3: 201 new cases

There are two active outbreaks in long-term care: Holyrood Manor in Fraser Health and Nelson Jubilee Manor in Interior Health.

As of Aug. 3, 81.4 per cent (3,773,442) of eligible people aged 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 67.3 per cent (3,121,311) received their second.
