One property evacuated, rainfall assists firefighting efforts in Columbia Shuswap Regional District
KAMLOOPS — An evacuation order was issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Monday (Aug. 2) afternoon.
The order affects one property, but is covers the west end of Humamilt Lake located northwest of the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake and east of Adams Lake and Momich Lake. A new wildfire near Humamilt Lake emerged today.
Elsewhere, the regional district said fire crews were celebrating the rainfall on Sunday. The rain assisted efforts on the Two Mile Fire near Sicamous, with crews saying there was enough to cause puddles in parking lot. Highway 97 remains closed.
The regional district said there have been reports of verbal and physical abuse of traffic controllers, and it asks the public to respect the workers who are there for public safety, as falling debris remains a safety concern.
