Tremont Creek Wildfire moves south leading to Evacuation Order and Evacuation Alert

KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has issued an Evacuation Order and an Evacuation Alert following a flare up of the Tremont Creek wildfire late Friday (July 30) afternoon.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was moving through an area of continuous fuels, exhibiting intense fire behaviour along the entire southeast flank of the blaze. However the northern flank of the fire from Barnes Lake to Walhachin has seen minimal fire activity.

As a result, an Evacuation Order has been issued for properties in the TNRD Electoral Area “J” (Copper Desert Country) 43 properties:

•4405 to 6525 Tunkwa Lake Rd; and

•any other properties located within the area noted on the attached map below.

Evaucees can access Emergency Support Services by reporting to the McArthur Island Sports Centre located at 1655 Island Parkway in Kamloops.

Meantime an Evacuation Alert has been issued for Electoral Area “I” (Blue Sky Country) and “J” (Copper Desert Country).

The following 11 addressed properties are affected by the Alert:

• 8240 to 8700 Old Meadow Creek Rd;

• 7185 to 7923 Tunkwa Lake Rd; and

• any other properties located within the area on the map below.

An Evacuation Alert is issued to prepare affected individuals to evacuate their property if it is necessary. The TNRD says residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation, however the notice may be very limited.
