KAMLOOPS — Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a plaque stolen from Peterson Creek Park.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Monday (July 26), the Kamloops RCMP received a report that the plaque had been stolen.

The brass plaque is in memory of three Kamloops RCMP constables who were killed near the location on June 18, 1962: Elwood Joseph Keck, Gordon Eric Pedersen, and Donald George Weisgerber. The officers were shot and killed while responding to a call involving a man with a gun.

“For someone to deface and steal a memorial honouring constables who died while trying to protect the residents of this community is really sad, it’s shameful to say the least,” said Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Sydney Lecky.

“I can’t imagine how the families of these constables, and of the countless other constables who risk their lives on behalf of this city, must feel knowing someone would steal a plaque recognizing their sacrifice,” Lecky added.

Anyone with information on the missing plaque is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2021-25646.
