KAMLOOPS – The front runner in the race to become the next leader of the BC Liberal Party, made a stop in Kamloops today (July 29) to rally support.

Kevin Falcon says British Columbians are suffering under the lack of leadership from the NDP government. He says small business owners along West Victoria Street, downtown and along the North Shore are having to endure a wave of crime because John Horgan’s government hasn’t developed support for those living in government housing in the area.

“Small business folks in the West Victoria neighbourhood are really seeing challenges as a result of government putting in housing for the mentally ill and addicted, but not providing the kind of supports that are needed.” Falcon added, “so you’ve got criminal activity, threats that are being made to local businesses, you’ve got a lot of concern in the area. And that’s unfortunate because what that does is erode trust and support for the people that really do need genuine support.”

Kevin Falcon took direct aim at Premier John Horgan, saying his incompetence is leading to tragic results for British Columbians. Falcon says Horgan’s failure to implement a State of Emergency to deal with the wildfires has led to struggles in the wildfire response. And he says Horgan also failed British Columbians during the powerful heat wave earlier this month.

“Then we had of course, the really unbelievable tragedy of the last heat wave, when in one week, 800 British Columbians, mostly seniors, died as a result of the total lack of competence in responding to this challenge. And we’ve got another heat wave coming forward and I want to get the message out to support your elderly parents and friends and neighbours and make sure they are well looked after. Make sure they have lots of water because that’s something we don’t ever want to see repeated in British Columbia.”

Falcon is one of five declared candidates for the leadership of the party. The vote is scheduled to occur February 5, 2022.
