KAMLOOPS — A 33-year-old Kamloops man was arrested and faces multiple charges following an alleged hit-and-run.

Kamloops RCMP said a stolen vehicle white Ford F-250 suddenly reversed, nearly striking a police vehicle, when officers attempted a traffic stop. The pickup truck reportedly fled the area at a high speed and into oncoming lanes.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey with the B.C. RCMP in the Southeast District said the truck was involved in a collision with a white Mazda Sedan at the intersection of Columbia Street and Sixth Avenue. Investigators believe the damaged truck then further rolled over a parked Harley-Davidson motorcycle and damaged a fence before coming to a final rest.

The man then took off on foot before being located and arrested by police nearby.

The driver of the Mazda was transported by B.C. Emergency Health Services to hospital for medical treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident began July 15 at 1:16 p.m. when RCMP responded to a report of two suspicious vehicles, a silver Saturn sedan with no licence plates and a white Ford F-250 pickup truck, in the parking garage of a property in the 400-block of Lansdowne Street.

Police queries of the licence plate attached to the pickup truck identified it as being reported to police on Wednesday as stolen.

Anyone who witnessed any portion of the collision, or the man’s arrest, and have not yet spoken to police is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
