KAMLOOPS —UPDATE – 5:00 AM July 26-

Some areas have seen a downgrading of evacuation orders and alerts as crews start to get some of the fires under control. Yesterday afternoon, the Durand Lake fire was considered “under control” and the evacuation order and alerts in Electoral Area “J” were rescinded to “all clear”. But the evacuation alert area in place for the Tremont Creek wildfire that crossed over with the Durand lake evacuation alert is still in effect.

Saturday evening, an alert was issued for a number of properties in the Pimainus Lake area north of the Lytton Wildfire.
An evacuation order has been partially downgraded to an alert for three properties in the Bonaparte Plateau area.

In the Cariboo, there were some orders downgraded in some of the areas affected by the Canim Lake Fire, and in the Flat Lake to Green Lake North.
For all prior orders and alerts that are still in effect or downgraded, please check out the TNRD and Cariboo Regional District websites.

The White Rock Lake fire northeast of Merritt showed increased fire behaviour yesterday because of hot and dry conditions. Activity is expected to remain strong this week. The fire is estimated at 12,500 hectares.
The Tremont Creek fire continues to show high activity. A two-hectare spot fire sprang up across highway 97C on the southwest of the fire but was extinguished by crews on site.
While the Embleton Mountain fire near Sun Peaks is still classified as out of control, crews continue to make progress in establishing solid guards.
The Sparks Lake fire is now estimated at over 58,000 hectares. But crews are slowly making progress establishing guards and clearing up hotspots.

EARLIER- The Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s (TNRD) evacuation order and alerts issued to the Copper Desert Country electoral area on July 8, due to the Durand Lake wildfire, were rescinded to all clear.

Residents in Block A of District Lot 6883 and District Lot 4733 may return home.

The evacuation alert is rescinded for the following 170 properties:

  • 9273 to 9437 Dominic Lake Forest Service Rd.
  • 4445 Greenstone Rd.
  • 2380 to 5625 Tunkwa Lake Rd.
  • 4704 to 4792 Atwater Rd.
  • 4700 to 4870 Mile High Lane
  • 4812 to 4897 Paska Lake Rd.
  • 4730 to 4890 Pine Ridge Way
  • 830 to 4860 Saddle Cres.
  • other properties as identified on the attached map
    (Thompson-Nicola Regional District).

The evacuation alert in place for the Tremond Creek wildfire that crossed over with the Durand Lake wildfire evacuation alert area is still in effect.

The TNRD said an evacuation order or alert could be reinstated as necessary should conditions chance.

TNRD residents can track active evacuation alerts and orders here.
