KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say the Targeted Enforcement Unit and Serious Crimes Unit have made progress on the organized crime front — with numerous investigations expected to result in charges.

RCMP cannot disclose details about cases with charges pending, but Superintendent Syd Lecky says more details about some of their higher level investigations will be revealed soon.

“I do think it’s worth seeing, for the public to realize the type of militarized weapons we have in our community or passing through our community, the nature of the investigations, how complex they are and protracted, and to see the results.”

Some of the upcoming trials will be related to homicides that took place in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

“Next month in August, and September of 2021, you’re going to see one of the biggest trials we’ve had in Kamloops. Involving again, connections to organized crime. That was the homicide of Troy Gold.”

While the results are an improvement for the city, Lecky reiterates that as long as the illegal drug trade exists, this won’t be the end of organized crime in Kamloops.

“I can tell you that we have some gangsters in this community who are currently in jail, and that has helped to keep a lid on it. Because of the work that these folks (Targeted Enforcement Unit) are doing. And we have more that are waiting for that charge approval that will go to jail,” he says. “That is the balance, but perhaps its time to look at a safe drug supply.”
