KAMLOOPS — A drug alert is in effect for Kamloops starting Wednesday (July 21) and ending July 28.

Interior Health stated the drug that looks like green chunk is being sold as crystal meth. A BENZO test strip at ASK Wellness found that it contains fentanyl and methamphetamine, and caffeine and xylitol (sugar).

The risk from taking the green chunk includes an opioid/benzodiazepine overdose or prolonged sedation. There’s a high risk of overdose for people who do not regularly use opioids.

People who use are asked to get their drugs checked at ASK Wellness at 433 Tranquille Rd. They’re also asked to start with a small amount and then go slow, along with avoiding using different drugs at the same time and using drugs and alcohol together.

Interior Health said people shouldn’t use along and should ask someone to check on them. If they must use alone, they’re asked to consider downloading and using the Lifeguard app which can connect with 9-1-1 responders if they overdose.

There are overdose prevention sites at ASK Wellness OPS at 433 Tranquille Rd. Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and Interior Health SCS at 569 Seymour St. Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Naloxone kits and training are available at ASK Wellness, Interior Health locations on Lansdowne and King Street and various pharmacies.
