KAMLOOPS — The introduction of Shaun Clouston as the Blazers new general manager was supposed to take place a couple weeks ago and be done by the late Don Moores, but with the tragic passing of team’s former President and COO, it was pushed back.

Moores was part of the selection process, and while no longer with us, he was top of mind at Tuesday’s media conference to introduce Shaun Clouston as the team’s general manager and Tim O’Donovan as assistant GM.

“Don had planned [the announcement] and Don was going to lead the conference,” noted Blazers’ majority owner Tom Gaglardi. “Our hearts are heavy. We miss Don immensely. It’s a tough period for us.”

During his opening remarks, Clouston got emotional thinking about Moores and the mentor he was.

“I do want to thank Don. He’s not here, but he was the guy that,” said Clouston as he paused to hold his tears back. “He informed me that I was going to get the job, and on the Saturday after he passed, Tom called a meeting and our whole staff was there. We talked about Mooresy and shared some tears and shared some laughs, and the one thing Tom made clear is we weren’t going to forget him and we weren’t going to let his passion and his energy and his enthusiasm go away.”

Moores died suddenly of a heart attack on June 30 while golfing at the Kamloops Golf & Country.

His Celebration of Life was held a week ago today (July 20) at the Sandman Centre.
