UPDATE (9:45 a.m.): B.C. Wildfire Service said they, along with Kamloops Fire Rescue and Kamloops RCMP, responded to five suspicious fires last night in the Knutsford area.

The largest of the five fires is estimated to be four hectares. All are suspected to be human-caused.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Rural RCMP are investigating whether several small fires in the Knutsford area late Tuesday night (July 13) were intentionally set.

Spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn says RCMP were called to fires at both the 3.5km mark and the 10km mark of Goose Lake Road at about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday. Social media reports suggest there may have been as many as four fire starts in total.

Firefighters and the property owner had already gained control of the fires when RCMP arrived.

Evelyn says witnesses reported a white Mazda car in the area at the time, whose occupants may have tossed an ignition source out of the vehicle as it passed.

She notes the reports are vague, but investigators want to talk to the driver of that vehicle.
