Public welcome for Don Moores’ Celebration of Life today at Sandman Centre
KAMLOOPS — The Celebration of Life for Don Moores happens this afternoon (July 13) at the Sandman Centre.
The celebration begins at 1 p.m. and is open to the public, but under the current restrictions, there will be 2,500 people allowed into the Sandman Centre to remember Moores, who passed away suddenly on June 30. He suffered a heart attack while golfing at the Kamloops Golf and Country Club.
The 65-year-old was hired by the Blazers as Team President and Chief Operating Officer in 2016.
Ken Hitchcock, former Blazers head coach from 1984 to 1990 — the same time Moores was an assistant coach with the team — will be the emcee for the celebration, while country singer Gord Bamford, who became close friends with Moores after his son was drafted by the team in 2019, will perform.
