Downtown Nanaimo cooling centre to stay open
NANAIMO — A cooling centre for the vulnerable hasn’t closed as planned.
The space at the 7-10 Club in the Community Service Building on the corner of Prideaux St. and Fitzwilliam St. was used as a reprieve from the sun during late June’s historic heat wave.
It was to close on July 10, but staff on Tuesday, July 13 told NanaimoNewsNOW the space will remain open on a conditional basis.
When the forecast is projected to be over 28 degrees, the cooling centre will open to offer refreshments, fans and shade to all those in need.
