Evacuation alerts lifted around Napier Lake, Deka Lake fires

KAMLOOPS AND 100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — There is some good news on the wildfire front, as tensions around a pair of Interior wildfires have eased.

On Monday afternoon (July 12), the Thompson-Nicola Regional District rescinded all evacuation alerts put in place around the Napier Lake wildfire that popped up last Wednesday (July 7).

The fire ignited very quickly, burning close to a few homes and causing a brief evacuation before firefighters and area residents brought the situation under control.

In the Cariboo, the community of Deka Lake can breathe easier, as evacuation alerts there have been lifted.

The Cariboo Regional District says the danger from the 650-hectare fire that ignited on June 30 has waned.

An expansion alert near Sulphurous Lake to the north remains in place.
