KAMLOOPS — A 37-year-old woman who is not from Kamloops will appear in court today (July 11) after allegedly barricading herself after a domestic incident.

Kamloops RCMP said a man told responding officers that the woman attacked him with a knife and uttered death threats. Police were called to a motel on the 1700-block of East Trans Canada Highway Sunday at 1 a.m. where the man and woman could be heard yelling at each other.

The woman, who allegedly barricaded herself in the room, was eventually taken into custody unharmed following gas deployment. Police added this was after the Emergency Response Team were called on site and a negotiator attempted to deescalate the situation.

“This was definitely a high-risk incident, involving violence,” S/Sgt Mat. Van Lear stated. “Thankfully, nobody got hurt, and the public was very cooperative and understanding of the police presence and action, for which we are also thankful.”
