Unemployment rate drops in every province in June

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says the economy added 230,700 jobs in June as restrictions put in place to slow the pandemic were rolled back across the country. The gain came as the number of part-time positions rose 263,900, while the number of full-time jobs fell 33,200.
The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent for the month compared with 8.2 percent in May. Employment among youth aged 15 to 24 rose by 164,000 (+7.1%), the largest single-month increase for this age group since July 2020.
The B.C. unemployment rate dropped a substantial 6.7 percent, to sit at 6.6 percent in June. That’s the second-best rate in Canada, behind Quebec’s rate of 6.3 percent.
The unemployment rate in every province dropped this past month.
