Royal Inland COVID-19 outbreak grows to nine; 17 new cases in IH Wednesday

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health (IH) says the COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital has grown to nine cases.

The outbreak, declared June 30 on 6 South, has been contained to patients and has not spread to staff. Six South is a surgical ward.

In an email to CFJC Today, IH says it has been able re-open a portion of the ward to some new admissions.

The RIH outbreak is one of three active outbreaks in B.C. acute care facilities.

Meantime, the provincial health ministry reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday (July 7), including 17 within Interior Health.

The first-dose vaccination rate has reached 78.2 per cent for eligible British Columbians 12 and older, with a second-dose rate of 38.2 per cent.
