Nanaimo man killed in early-morning ATV rollover crash

NANAIMO — An ATV accident has killed a local man south of Nanaimo.

Emergency crews were called to a gravel road off Nanaimo River Rd., near Gogo’s Christmas Tree farm on South Forks Rd. in the morning hours of on Sunday, July 4.

Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the man’s friends went looking for the 38-year-old who had disappeared while riding with them Saturday night.

“The accident could have happened within the span of about five hours. He had gone missing for several hours, (his friends) eventually found him about 5:30 a.m. next to his ATV which had rolled.”

The two friends attempted CPR on the man but his injuries were too severe. Paramedics were unable to revive him when they arrived on scene.

It’s not clear whether the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash however one was found at the scene.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue investigating the incident.
