Deka Lake ordered to evacuate due to wildfire risk

DEKA LAKE, B.C. — Residents of Deka Lake have been ordered to leave the community due to the risk of nearby wildfire activity.

The evacuation order impacts the entire community of Deka Lake, an upgrade from the evacuation alert issued Wednesday night (June 30).

Evacuees are instructed to leave via Highway 24 to 100 Mile House, where they are asked to register at the Emergency Social Services Centre at South Cariboo Recreation Centre, 175 Wrangler Way.

The South Cariboo area has been hit with dozens of new wildfire starts due to lightning strikes Wednesday.
