WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The extreme heat over the past few days has led to high water at a time when river typically peaked in the B.C. Interior.

Flood warnings are now in effect for the Upper Fraser River and its tributaries near Prince George, as well as the Chilcotin river and its surrounding, smaller waterways.

High streamflow advisories and flood watches are in place in several other river basins in the B.C. Interior.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre (RFC) says the heat is leading to snowmelt at higher elevations, with remaining snowpack “melting at extraordinary rates of 50-100 mm per day of snow water equivalent.”
