Occupants are asked to report to the TNRD at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre in Kamloops, remaining in or near the vehicle in which you arrive.

Meantime, the B.C. Wildfire Service has updated the size of the Sparks Lake wildfire to 750 hectares as of Tuesday afternoon.

The fire is burning out of control north of Kamloops Lake, near Red Lake.

Elsewhere, TNRD declared a State of Local Emergency due to the wildfire in Electoral Area “J” — Copper Desert Country.

By declaring a State of Local Emergency, it enables local authorities to exercise the emergency powers listed in the Emergency Program Act.

The emergency powers are used to order the evacuation of residents from their homes, prohibit travel, and enter private property when an emergency threatens lives, property, or the environment within the TNRD’s jurisdiction.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is evolving with the hot, dry weather conditions, forcing firefighters to constantly adjust fire resources. As of Tuesday night (June 29), it has deployed 47 firefighters, six helicopters and six pieces of heavy equipment to the fire-lines.  Fixed wing aircraft have also been seen dropping water on the blaze.
