KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Wildfire Service is now estimating the size of the Sparks Lake wildfire northwest of Kamloops at 2,300 hectares and growing.

The increased size estimate was made public late Tuesday evening (June 29).

The out-of-control blaze only ignited Monday afternoon, but has grown significantly and quickly, spurred by extreme heat, dry conditions and wind.

In addition to nine properties ordered evacuated due to nearby wildfire, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has put another 150 properties on notice.
