RCMP confirm North Shuswap homicide Friday, release victim’s identity

SCOTCH CREEK, B.C. β€” The victim of a Friday (June 25) morning shooting death in the North Shuswap is being publicly identified to determine his movements in the hours prior to his death.

John Vance, 32, of the Scotch Creek area has been positively identified by investigators.

On Friday at 5:46 a.m., Chase RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the 4100-block of Squilax-Anglemont Road in Scotch Creek.

Officers found Vance, who had been shot and subsequently died of his wounds.

β€œThe RCMP is publicly naming John in an effort to advance its ongoing investigation into his homicide death,” stated S/Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner of the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit.

A second adult man, who was taken into police custody, has since been released unconditionally. The investigation continues at this time and is being led by the Southeast District Major Crime Unit.
