KAMLOOPS – UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): Power began to be restored in Kamloops shortly after 8 p.m. Monday evening. The initial outage in Upper Aberdeen was caused by an overload or a voltage problem according to  BC Hydro’s website.

The remaining outages are expected to be repaired over the course of the evening.

KAMLOOPS – UPDATE (7:50 p.m.): Power outages have since been reported in a total of eight pockets of Kamloops, from the Dallas area to the North Shore.

Combined with the initial outage in the Upper Aberdeen area, BC Hydro is reporting 2,227 customers are being affected by the outages.

According to the BC Hydro outage website, the outage in the Dallas area is being caused by a burned out transformer. The cause of the other outages are still under investigation.

Power to the nine affected customers in the Dallas area is expected to be restored around 9:30 p.m. Monday evening.

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (7:05 p.m.): Another outage has been reported affecting the neighbourhood of Juniper Ridge.

EARLIER: The power is out to a large portion of Upper Aberdeen Monday afternoon (June 28).

On its website, BC Hydro says the outage was first reported at 5:22 p.m. and affects about 779 customers.

The cause of the outage is not yet known, and there is no estimate when it may be restored.

Earlier in the day, BC Hydro said it was confident its grid could withstand the oppressive heatwave B.C. is experiencing.
