WHITEHORSE — A monumental journey from Whitehorse, Yukon to Kamloops.

On Friday (June 25), Northern Nations Alliance began its Warriors Walk for Healing Nations: a walk greater than 2,100 kilometres in honour of the 215 children found at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School site, and the children who have not yet been found. The walk is projected to finish on Aug. 9.

Grand Chief Peter Johnston of the Council of Yukon First Nations is participating in the walk. He said as a father and grandfather, they must honour their people even more now.

“This is our obligation once again as First Nation people to ensure that we bring this to light,” Johnston said. “Hopefully put a closure to this where the accountability to the retribution to everything we seek. Not only for our previous ancestors, the ones that have gone before us and have been impacted, but the people that are still with us.”
