More hot weather expected

New daily temperature record in Kamloops

Jun 26, 2021 | 6:34 PM

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops reached a new record maximum temperature Saturday.

At 6 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the temperature reached 40.4 degrees Celsius at Fulton Field, topping the old mark of 38.4 degrees Celsius, set in 2006.

And this is not likely to be the last record to be broken. Temperatures under the so-called “heat dome” are forecast to reach up to 42 degrees in the next few days.

Seventeen centres across British Columbia posted new temperature records on Friday.

B.C. is not the only province affected. Records are falling all across the country.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in B.C. was 44.4 C in Lytton in 1941, and in Canada was 45 C in Yellow Grass and Midale, Sask., in July 1937, and meteorologists have not ruled out the possibility of them falling.
