BC Ferries’ new schedule released to handle busy summer

NANAIMO — Ferries to and from Vancouver Island are expected to be packed this summer, especially as COVID-19 restrictions loosen.

BC Ferries’ summer schedule began Friday, June 25 with extra sailings on many routes.

An additional 6:25 sailing both ways was added to the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay route, along with selection 11:40 p.m. sailings from Horseshoe Bay to the Island.

The major route will see 24 sailings per day.

The Duke Point-Tsawwassen route will see 16 sailings every day of the week starting at 5:15 a.m. and ending at 10:45 p.m.

The most changes were made on the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen route.

BC Ferries noted Thursday and Friday’s are the busiest days on sailings to the Island, with those same travellers leaving on Sunday afternoon.

Reservations are recommended for every sailing.
