Fifty-six new COVID-19 cases found in B.C.; 1.1M British Columbians now fully vaccinated

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — The province says more than one-million British Columbians are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Speaking from Prince George Tuesday (June 22), where she is meeting with public health officials, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 77.7 per cent of adults and 76.2 per cent of all British Columbians aged 12 or older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Henry noted a total of 4.5 million doses of vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 1.1 million second doses.

Meantime, Henry reported 56 new cases of the virus in the province Tuesday, including 15 within Interior Health.

There have been a total of 147,187 cases of COVID-19 in B.C. since the pandemic arrived, spread out thusly:

  • 35,373 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 12)
  • 85,610 — Fraser Health (up by 18)
  • 5,153 — Island Health (up by 3)
  • 13,046 — Interior Health (up by 15)
  • 7,800 — Northern Health (up by 7)
  • 204 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Henry noted the active COVID-19 caseload in B.C. is 1,150 Tuesday, a decrease of 54 from Monday. There are 111 people in hospital and 41 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 259 active cases, a decrease of 11 from Monday. There are six patients in hospital and all six are in critical care.

No new deaths from the virus were recorded in B.C., leaving the provincial death toll at 1,743 and the Interior Health death toll at 155.

A total of 143,579 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.
