Salmon Arm RCMP investigate reports of women being watched and followed

SALMON ARM, B.C. — RCMP in Salmon Arm say several suspicious occurrences are believed to be unrelated

Mounties say they became aware of rumours that had been circulating about women being watched and followed in the Salmon Arm area.

“Police have received three reports which may have led to this concern,” Staff Sgt. Scott West said. “The events span from June 13 to June 17, 2021. Police believe the three events are all unrelated and in two of the cases, ladies were made to feel uncomfortable and reported it to police.”

West says in those two cases, the men were identified.

“One man was spoken to by police and was unaware that he made anyone feel uncomfortable. Police are still working to speak to the other man whose inquiries about female staff at a local business have seen the man barred from the store. All indications are that the man has left our area,” West commented.

On June 17, 2021, in the third of the three events, a woman was invited in to a vehicle and declined the offer.

“She then did the right thing and went to a home she considered safe and reported the incident to police. The only description of the suspects in this case was that involved two men in a light colored sedan,” West said.

All three cases have been investigated and are believed to be unrelated.

“In all three cases, no criminal acts took place. We encourage anyone who feels unsafe to report such encounters to police at the time or as soon as soon as it is safe to do so after it occurs. If investigators can identify the person responsible police will make every effort to speak to the person involved and take further action if required,” West remarked.
