B.C. averaged 92 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the weekend

VICTORIA — B.C. has found 277 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days — an average of 92 per day.

The totals are contained in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The province recorded 96 new cases on Saturday (June 12), 113 on Sunday and 68 on Monday.

A total of 63 new cases were found within Interior Health during the past three days.

Overall, B.C. has found 146,453 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 35,246 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 36)
  • 85,271 — Fraser Health (up by 148)
  • 5,132 — Island Health (up by 12)
  • 12,834 — Interior Health (up by 63)
  • 7,767 — Northern Health (up by 16)
  • 202 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

Henry noted the province’s active COVID-19 caseload is 1,537 Monday, a decrease of 343 from Friday. There are 136 patients in hospital and 42 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 329 active cases Monday, a decrease of 53 from Friday. There are 14 people in hospital and nine in critical care.

Four more people have died of the virus, lifting B.C.’s death toll to 1,734. One of the four deaths took place in Interior Health, raising the regional death toll to 153.

A total of 143,147 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.

The proportion of British Columbians who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 75.9 per cent for adults and 74.1 per cent for those age 12 and older. The province has administered 4.05 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, including 613,453 second doses.
