‘Quick save’: cigarette butt fire doesn’t spread far at G and M Road
KAMLOOPS — A reminder to the public to completely put out their cigarettes before discarding them.
Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire on G and M Road Friday (June 11) evening where light smoke was visible. Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper called it a quick save.
“Luckily, the occupant had a fire extinguisher handy and kept it under control until we could get there and put it out,” Cooper said. “The occupant was saying he put a cigarette out in a bucket and that could have been the cause of it. Just a quick save, and quick action by the crews to stop it from spreading.”
No injuries or significant structure damage were reported.
