Third homicide victim found in Naramata, possibly related to Kamloops’ Fryer brother killings

NARAMATA, B.C. — RCMP say another homicide victim has been found in Naramata, potentially related to last month’s murders of two Kamloops brothers.

The bodies of Erick and Carlo Fryer were found in Naramata on May 10.

In a news release, Acting Officer in Charge of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon says RCMP went to a Naramata home Wednesday (June 9) in relation to the Fryer homicides.

The Mounties noted the home was insecure but no one answered the door. When they went inside to check on the well-being of the occupants, they found the body of an adult woman.

Wijayakoon says the woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide and says the Southeast District’s investigators are working with the B.C. RCMP Major Crime unit, who is investigating the murders of the Fryer brothers.

“The investigation into the May deaths of Erick and Carlos Fryer is progressing and we know that their deaths were not a random act and likely connected to local drug and gang activities,” said Wijayakoon.

The B.C. Coroners Service is working to determine a conclusive identity for the woman, though a preliminary identification has been made.

This degree of violence in Naramata, a small winery community just outside of Penticton, is unusual, and Supt. Brian Hunter of Penticton RCMP says residents should be assured that the violence is not random.

“These appear to be targeted acts, and this type of violence, related to drug and gang activities, is not normal in our community,” said Hunter. “Additional police resources have been brought into the area and you can expect to see a higher police presence in the days ahead. Now is the time for anyone with information to come forward.”
